Challenges of primary healthcare

Maiya creator Dr Alex Rawlings, alongside other speakers including Owen Johnson and Ged Connolly-Thompson, delivered insightful presentations covering topics ranging from process analysis for pathway improvement to optimising patient referral pathways and digital health innovation at the event organised by Leeds Digital Health. 

Ged Connolly-Thompson's presentation on Pathfinder and its role in optimizing patient referral pathways to ICS specialists was particularly enlightening, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of digital advances in healthcare.

Dr Rawlings spoke about the relationship between Primary and Secondary care and as the impact of challenges in one directly feeds back to impact the other. Currently this is all negative feedback so the whole system is slowing down and long term conditions become more challenging. However, improved managament of long term conditions positively impacts on the wider system by reducing episodes of unplanned care in both Primary and Secondary care.

He further illuminated the challenges and successes encountered in developing Maiya, an automated system designed to support general practices in long-term condition management. The discussion's depth was enhanced by a focus on AI/RPA in primary care and navigating the increasingly commercialised market.
